Indonesia : Sate Padang

Sate Padang is a type of satay that originally comes from Padang, West Sumatra. Its unique creamy sauce is what differentiates it from other kind of satay. The sauce itself is made from different spices and ingredients including white and red onion, ginger, chili, and a few other ingredients.

There’s 3 main types of sate Padang, each with their own unique touch based on which are it comes from:

1. Sate Darek

This type of sate Padang comes from a small city located just next to the city of Padang, the city is called Padang Panjang. Therefore, it is sometimes also called sate Padang Panjang. Each of the three types of sate Padang has its own unique sauce, and for sate Darek the sauce has a bright yellow color as they added more ginger in the mixture.

A popular brand for this type of sate Padang is called Sate Mak Syukur, which has a large restaurant in the heart of Padang Panjang city itself. Not only that, it has now opened a branch in Jakarta.

2. Sate Pariaman

Sate Pariaman comes from the city of Pariaman, also near Padang. The sauce for this sate is more spicy than the others, hence the color of its sauce is red and brown combined.

3. Sate Dangung-Dangung

Sate Dangung-Dangung comes from the district of 50 Kota, West Sumatra. Sate dangung-dangung is unique when it comes to both its meat and sauce. This is because the meat is coated in a bit of sugar and the sauce is served with a sprinkle of coconut powder.
