Kerak telor is made from a combination of sticky rice and duck egg which get mixed and fried. Seasoning is then added in the form of leek, spices, anchovies, or even shrimp. Kerak telor’s texture is crispy, and the taste is quite exquisite as it is cooked on top of coconut charcoal.

Kerak telor historically is only sold in the street or small vendors at the side of the road, but now it has become a staple in many big events in Jakarta including its yearly event the Pekan Raya Jakarta (Jakarta Grand Week). What’s interesting is even though there are hundreds of other food served in this event, kerak telur is still ranked high among the crowd favorite.
